When it comes to life, there is no “Life Rules” book! And while that’s an undeniable truth, we can create our own “Life Rules” book and the beauty is we can add whatever we want to that book.
My favorite quote from William Earnest Henley is this one:
“I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.”
That quote always reminds me that while we cannot control the world around us, we can at least keep our attitude in check.
The truth is, our attitude is what propels our future. So, how often do you take a mental scan on your attitude?
It’s very easy to lose track of our thoughts in our fast-paced lifestyle and if we aren’t aware of what’s going on then don’t be surprised when your thoughts start running the show of your life.
So the answer to all life’s mysteries is AWARENESS!
We must start putting some fundamental things in place so that it becomes easier for us to recognize any unhealthy patterns and stop them before they do too much damage.
Patterns take hold in our lives when we keep our thoughts unchecked and let them run wild.
The mind is the most powerful thing, yet most of us operate it without even having the slightest understanding of what we are capable of in order to influence this beautiful mind of ours.
In today’s article I am going to share with you some life rules that when I became 100% aware of, they have helped me start having more meaning in my life and with more meaning I was able to attract more wealth, more joy and more fabulous relationships!
But, What Should Be Aware Of In The First Place?
The fear of the unknown!
It’s a mental habit that most of the time stem from the negativity we see around us daily. Remember “Pig-Pen” from Charlie Brown?
Take a second by looking at the GIF above and start to think of your negative thoughts as this cloud surrounding you like dirt from Pig-Pen. It’s blocking your view of how things could be, so you just focus on the dirt.
This dark cloud follows us, making us negative in our personal and professional lives. We stay under this cloud and let it direct our thoughts.
According to Amram Scheinfield, an expert on genetics, “In all the history of the world, there was never anyone exactly else exactly like you, and in all the infinity of time to come, there will never be another.” It’s time to start thinking like the WONDERFUL person that you are.
This article features 8 Simple Yet Effective Life Rules To Help Position You for Greater Success and Fulfillment.
1. Remember that you control your attitude and how you react to things.
Most people react, but I am going to teach you how to respond instead of reacting. Let me paint a picture…
A neighbor saw you outside and waved you over. They started off in a nice conversation, but it quickly turned to “Your tree is dropping junk on my husband’s car. I would like you to pay for the tree to be cut down.” Your brain is about to explode because they have a garage, that her husband never parks his car in. Before you say something ridiculous that you can’t take back. Breathe, Think, and Respond NOT REACT.
Here’s how I would handle the situation:
Thank you, neighbor, I appreciate you bringing this to my attention.
The tree is an old tree and it has been here a long time, plus my favorite part of the day is when looking out of the window and seeing the tree there but you’re my neighbor and I want you to have a wonderful time living next to me so here’s my thought on the matter:
“Cutting the tree just for tree dropping would have a huge impact on the environment, so how about this, instead of cutting the tree, I’d be happy to trim the branches that are hanging on your side.”
How they respond or react is their response and reaction and it has nothing to do with you. Work on controlling what you can control. Most of the time, people’s issues are their issues and not yours.
2. Start reading positive affirmations or motivational material in the morning.
If you spend the first 15 minutes of your day thinking about good ways to deal with situations, then you already won the day!
Most people spend the first 15 minutes of the day scanning the news and chances are, you will see something negative and just reinforce old thought patterns.
Here are few affirmations to get you started:
3. Avoid turning on the news when you get home.
I know this one might be hard to do, but there is so much hate and negativity out there. Try to focus on the positive by creating news outlets that share just as many happy stories as the negative ones. If negative is constantly there for you to turn to, you are letting that control your thoughts once again.
4. Ignore The F.M.L. “Fu*k My Life” friends.
We all have them.
You go to whatever social media outlet you have and you scroll through your friends feed and invariably one of them is on a rant, again!
They use more profanity than what you’d hear on a rap song. They hate everybody and everything and everyone is out to get them. There is this nice feature called “Hide”. Go ahead and use it – your mind, body, and soul will thank you!
I see no evil, I hear no evil 🙂
5. Strengthen your mind.
It’s time to stop using words such as “can’t” and replace them with words such as “can”. Or even worse than “I can’t” is the phrase “I’ll try.”
Really? You are setting yourself up for failure with this. By saying “I’ll try’ you are mentally giving yourself an out. I know it. You know it. And your boss knows it too!
You can either do something or you can’t. It’s a no-brainer.
6. Be grateful.
When is the last time you wrote down 5-10 things you were grateful for?
If it’s been a while, start now. Keep this list handy where you can see it.
7. Own up to your life.
Don’t let circumstances take control over your life. Stop playing the victim.
When you place blame on events, people or circumstances, you just gave the reins of your life to them!
You are literally giving them control over you, your situation, even your job. Don’t do that. It is your responsibility. Own it and move on.
8. Remember that you are not perfect.
Everyone, and I do mean everyone, makes mistakes.
Just don’t let that one mistake ruin the present moment. Learn to forgive and let go so you can get unstuck and move forward.
You see, we create what is going on around us.
I know that you are not sure about this fact just yet, but humor me for a second…
What we believe in inside our inner world, we start to project to the outer world. It becomes our reality!
Have you ever met anyone without problems? Even the happiest of people on earth has problems, but it’s all in how they deal with them.
We place too much power on outer circumstances, and how we react to our outer world can truly be up to us.
Never let another person’s opinion become your reality because you are then relinquishing your control once again.
Has anyone ever said anything to you like “I don’t think you can do this.” And then you let that comment get into your head. What they said was their opinion of how they saw you and what they think you’re able to accomplish.
It’s their opinion, however, If you entertain that opinion even for a second then you’re welcoming that possibility into your reality.
You MUST ultimately come to a place where you believe in yourself!
Believe that you are enough and that you are worthy of positive things coming your way. Love yourself with all your imperfections and start weeding through the negative thoughts by applying the 8 life rules mentioned above. Throw out any thoughts, ideas, and patterns that are no longer serving you. You are creating a beautiful garden, and quite frankly, some thoughts have no place there.
It’s time to focus on the here and now and let all the distractions fall away.
No past. No future. Simply PRESENT!
What are you doing right this minute to make the most of your thoughts? Are you daydreaming? Focus only on the task at hand, and let me know if you have some other tips that work for you.
